For good or ill, the oversized smartphone trend shows no signs of abating. In fact, Sony's just taken it to the next level with the Xperia ZUltra — a new smartphone with a simply monstrous 6.4-inch, 1080p screen. Despite the huge panel and respectable 3,000mAh battery (which it surely needs to power that massive screen), the phone is also extremely thin at only 6.5mm and weighs 212 grams. That's thinner than the iPhone 5, but also twice as heavy — we'll have to see how these dimensions feel when you're holding Sony's supersized phone. Other noteworthy features include a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon  800 processor clocked at 2.2GHz, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage plus a microSD slot, Android 4.2, and an 8-megapixel camera.

Sony announced the water-proof Sony XperiaZR as an extension of the flagship Sony Xperia Z. While the flagship device is water resistant and dust-proof, Sony Xperia ZR lets users click images from under the water. The phone received a positive response on launchand looks like the device is all set to debut soon in India. 

   Sony Xperia ZR is listed online on most e-commerce sites and the estimated launch date is 15th June. The phone will be delivered within 1-2 days of shipping. 

Sony Xperia ZR comes with a 4.6-inch HD Reality LCD screen and a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. Sony Xperia ZR comes with a new display technology named ‘OptiContrast’ panel which removes the gap between the screen and the touch sensor by integrating the sensor on the main panel itself. The resultis a slimmer display with better touch-feedback. Like most Xperia series phones, Sony Xperia ZR will come with the mobile BRAVIA display. 

Under the hood Sony Xperia ZR runs a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 quad-core processor. The phone comes with an internal memory of 8 GB which is expandable to 32 GB using a MicroSD card slot (up to 32 GB). The phone comes with a 2 GB RAM. The specifications are all in keeping with Sony Xperia Z and Sony has not skimped on the processor or the RAM with the Xperia ZR. 

While the specifications match other phonemakers’ flagship models, there is one stark difference which sets the Sony Xperia ZR apart and might make it a winner. The camera. Sony Xperia ZR comes with a 13 MP rear end camera with Exmor RS. The camera comes with 16x digital zoom with auto-focus. The front-camera is a basic VGA resolution camera. Like the Xperia Z, Xperia ZR also comes with a dedicated camera shutter button on the side of the camera. Combined with its dedicated camera key, thewaterproof capabilities let you shoot videos in Full HD or snap pictures underwater, capturing the sharpest visuals. Sure sounds exciting! 

The phone runs on Android Jelly Bean ver.4.1.The phone comes with regular connectivity options like NFC, USB port, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPRS, EDGE, etc. The battery power is still unknown but Sony claims that the phone comes with ‘Stamina’ mode which retains battery for a longer period of time. 

While the phone was launched in four colour variants, just the black, white and pink variants are up for pre-order in India. The sites list Rs 30,990 as the official listing pricebut the phone is available for Rs 29,990.

It also lets you activate the Quick Launch and Shortcut features. The dials from the Galaxy Camera have been replaced by digital controls.The Photo Suggest instantly connects you to huge libraries of images taken by fellow photographers and directs you to the ideal nearby location. It also has 25 Smart Modes, including the Smart Mode Suggest feature that suggest the best mode based on surrounding factors such as light levels, focal length, or face detection.

Google has announced the new Play Store for Android smartphones and Tablets. The new Google Play version 4.0.25 is a major update from the current version 3.10.14. This update brings a redesigned Holo-inspired user interface with new fonts, bigger images and lots more. This update also lets you discover things faster. The Google Play v4.0 sufaced in a leak last month, that revealed some of the features.

Lava has launched the Iris 455, a new Android smartphone in the Iris Series on Blockbuster Phoneday.

 If there ever is an award for launching the most number of smartphones, it would definitely go to Lava. Give this Indian manufacturer another year or so and it might have more phones in its inventory than companies like LG ever made. The latest addition to its lineup is the IRIS 455. The phone is expected to go on sale in the coming days. 

 There’s nothing special about IRIS 455 and it comes with the same specs we’ve been typing over and over and over. The phone comes with a 4.5-inch qHD display along with a 1GHz dual-core processor. There’s also 512MB RAM, 5 megapixel camera, VGA front camera and a 1500mAh battery. The phone offers 4 GB internal storage along with support for dual SIM connectivity. It runs Android 4.1 out of the box and that’s pretty much there is to reveal about this phone. 

 The price hasn’t been disclosed yet, but expect it to be around Rs 8,000.

1 Nokia Lumia 720 & Lumia 520 launches in India

Nokia Lumia 520 is priced at Rs 10,500 and will be available in the market this month itself but Lumia 720 will hit the market in April this year.

 Finnish handset maker, Nokia has announced the launch of Lumia 720 and Lumia 520 smartphones in India. Both the handsets come with Windows Phone 8 operating system. Nokia Lumia 520 is priced at Rs 10,500 and will hit the market in 7 days, but the Lumia 720 will be made available inIndia in the month of April. There is no announcement as of now about the price of Lumia 720.

  Meanwhile, Idea Cellular has also announced that buyers of Nokia Lumia 520 will also get 2 GB 3G data every month for two consecutive months for free. Also Lumia 520 users can avail 1 GB of data for free from RCom for two consecutive months.

Nokia Lumia 720 comes with a 4.3 inch ClearBlack Gorilla Glass 2.0 display with 800 x 480 pixels resolution. It has a polycarbonate unibody like the Nokia Lumia 920. The phone is slim with 9 mm thickness and weighs 128 grams.

 Nokia Lumia 720 has a dual-core 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, 512 MB RAM, 800 x 480 resolution based ClearBlack display, 2000 mAh battery, and NFC . It also has a 1.3-megapixel camera with wide-angle lens in the front and a 6.7 megapixel rear camera with f/1.9 lens on its back, which is specifically crafted by Carl Zeiss labs to take in more light.

 Like the Lumia 920 and 820, Lumia 720 also has the 'Glam Me' camera filter to edit the image withfun elements. The phone also comes with apps like Nokia Here apps (Drive, Transit and Maps), aswell as Nokia Music.

 Its 4 inch IPS LCD display has 800x480 pixel resolution and is covered with a hardened glass and comes with super sensitive touch capabilitiesthat works with fingernails or gloves too. The Nokia Lumia 520 has a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and is capable of recording 720p HD video at 30 fps. The phone is slim at 9.9 mm and weighs 124 grams.

We are drawing very close now to the Samsung Unpacked event taking place today, March 14. There’s a huge amount of excitement buildings it’s widely expected that we shall all see the official unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S4 (S IV) and this of course will be one of the dominant smartphones for 2013. 0 Samsung I9502 photos leak, is this the Galaxy S IV ?

New images of the Samsung GT-I9502 has surfaced in a Chinese forum that says the device is a dual-SIM carrier variant of the Galaxy S4 for China Unicom. These images differs a lot from the first image that surfaced last month. Several screenshots of the Galaxy S4 surfaced last week that revealed the specifications of the phone, and details from these images confirm these.

The phone is expected to come with a 13MP camera, and the sensor the phone seem larger than the S3.

The AnTuTu Benchmark app reveals the 1.8 GHz quad-core processor with PowerVR SGX 544MP GPU, 1080p display, 2GB RAM, 13MP camera and Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean OS.

UMI Launches X2 smartphone in India for Rs 14,000. The device is notable because it boasts of a number of features that we associate with smartphones that cost upwards of Rs 40,000. Features wise, it also gives the Micromax Canvas HD shivers as it is priced very similarly, but on paper it has a distinct hardware advantage over it.

 The UMI X2 sports a 5-inch full HD IPS display with an impressive pixel density of 441PPI, whichis similar to the HTC Butterfly and the Sony XperiaZ. It is powered by the MediaTek MTK6589 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz that we have already seen in the Micromax Canvas HD but this time around it is supplemented by 2GB of RAM instead of 1GB on the Canvas HD.

Moreover, the device runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out-of-thebox and the company promises an update to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean by April 2013. The smartphone comes with 32GB of internal storage along with a micro-SD card slot, to further expandthe storage by up to 32GB. The UMI X2 sports dual-SIM card slots and houses a 13 megapixel camera with flash at the back, along with a 3.0 megapixel front-facing camera. Phew! Seems toogood to be true, doesn’t it?

 The smartphone gets all the standard connectivity options like 3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and also packs-in a 2,500mAh battery. The company says that the smartphone would be released between March 15-20 for Rs. 14,000
