What's New in Samsung S5

Samsung Galaxy S5 was finally unveiled after a host of leaks and rumors. Samsung isn't shy when it comes to loading its top-of-the-range phones with headline-grabbing specs, and the Galaxy S5 is no different. Center stage is its quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor, which runs at a blistering 2.5GHz. This chip, paired with 2GB of RAM, means the phone shouldn't have any bother smoothly running any app you throw at it. One thing to note: it isn't 64-bit – that’s probably going to be a feature of next year’s Samsung flagship.
Samsung Galaxy S5 Specifications
  • 5.1-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) Super AMOLED display
  • 2.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor
  • Android 4.4.2 (KitKat)
  • 16MP rear camera with LED Flash, BSI and 4Kvideo recording
  • 2.1MP front-facing camera
  • IP67 ratings for Dust and water Resistance.
  • 8.1 mm thick and weighs 145 grams
  • 2GB RAM, 16GB / 32GB internal memory,  expandable up to 64GB with microSD
  • Infrared LED for smart TV remote
  • S Health 3.0, Heart rate sensor
  • 4G LTE-A, Wi-Fi 802.11ac (2X2 MIMO), Bluetooth v4.0 LE, GPS, USB 3.0 and NFC
  • 2800 mAh Battery
These are the specs of Samsung S5 but what's are the changes from S4 lets have a look on it:-

WATERPROOF

One major improvement over the S4 is IP67 waterproofing, bringing the S5 into line with Sony’s Xperia phones. It’s sealed to prevent any water or dust getting inside, so you can dunk the handset into water for as long as 30 minutes and it won’t protest one bit.

Fingerprint Scanner

Samsung has fitted the S5 with a fingerprint scanner, which serves three main purposes.
  1. It can swiftly unlock the phone, which works much like the Touch ID sensor on Apple's iPhone 5s.
  2. Next function is instant online mobile payments via PayPal integration.
  3. Last is to protect important documents with a Private Mode that's unlocked by your fingerprint.

New S Health app with heartrate sensor

Round the back, there's a heartrate sensor – the first ever seen on a smartphone, designed to play nice with Samsung's revised S Health app.
Samsung has focussed heavily on fitness with the Galaxy S5, equipping it with a brand new version of the S Health app that provides a FitBit-style activity tracker that helps you monitor your workouts and diet. S Health 3.0 is also aided by the built-in heart rate monitor and designed to integrate fully with Samsung’s new wearable tech: the Galaxy Gear 2, Galaxy Gear 2 Neo and Galaxy Gear Fit – meaning you can keep an eye on your activity without having to stop to haul the S5 out of your pocket.

BBM now available for Android 2.3 Gingerbred

BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) is now available for Android smartphones which are running on Gingerbread, True their promise, BlackBerry has just made its messaging, and now voice call, app available to more Android users.

However, from the time of release until now, BBM for Android has been available only on Android 4.0+ devices and with Android Gingerbread 2.3 still accounting for 20% of Android users, a lot of people were left without access to BBM. BlackBeery had stated that they were working hard to bring BBM for Gingerbread users and they have lived up to their word.

For BlackBerry it is a smart move to try and expand its user base on Android by offering the BBM app to more Android users. BBM app for Android and iOS saw over 20 million new users within the first week of its launch.

Some of the features that the users of Android 2.3 Gingerbread will not be able to use includes – BBM’s Voice Call, Live location tracking on Map and BBM Channels. There is no word on whether these features will be addressed in the coming version or not, but we sure do hope they will instate the features.

LG unveils 'G2 Mini' having 4.7-inch qHD display with Android 4.4

LG has finally made the G2 Mini official ahead of Mobile World Congress 2014. Its screen ekes out a fairly meager 960x540 pixels over those 4.7 inches, for a density of 234 pixels per inch. That's nowhere near the retina quality of the best screens on the market.
Where the G2 packs a mighty 2.26GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, its little bro makes do with a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400. It has half the amount of memory too, with 1GB of RAM compared to the G2's 2GB.

LG brings all the G2 features such as Guest Mode, Knock ON, Quick Memo and lots more features to the G2 Mini. The LG L90, the company’s upcoming smartphone in the L Series III has similar specifications, but has a different design.
LG G2 Mini specifications
  • 4.7-inch (960 x 540 pixels) capacitive touch screen display
  • 1.2 GHz quad-core processor
  • Android 4.4 KitKat
  • 8MP rear camera with LED flash
  • 1.3MP front-facing camera
  • 1GB RAM, 8GB Internal memory, expandable memory  with microSD
  • Dimensions: 129.6 x 66 x 9.8mm; Weight: 121 grams
  • 4G LTE/3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS
  • 2440 mAh battery
The LG G2 Mini comes in White, Black, Red and Gold colors. No word on pricing yet. It would showcase the G2 Mini at the MWC in Barcelona next week.

Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 Specifications and Lowest Price

The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 comes as a seemingly necessary update to the popular Galaxy Grand, as competition has gotten quite hot in the Rs. 20k segment. A hit upon launch, the original Grand was soon overtaken by many handsets that had better specifications, sometimes at a lower price too. Samsung finally fights back by upgrading two of the most criticised components; the display and the processor. While the Grand had a low 800 x 480 pixel resolution, the Grand 2 gets updated to a 1280 x 720 pixel resolution. The screen size is slightly larger at 5.2 inches without any considerable increase in the overall dimensions. Next, the dual-core chip on the original is updated to a quad-core processor clocked at the same 1.2GHz. RAM is also upped to 1.5GB. The battery is also bigger; now at 2600 mAh.

Pros
  • Good display
  • Quad-core Snapdragon 400 SoC ensures great performance
  • Very good camera
  • Dual SIM connectivity
Cons
  • Heavily bloated TouchWiz
  • All plastic build
  • Occasional lags
  • Isn’t great for HD gaming
  • A bit on the expensive side
 Price - Rs. 20,592 (Tradus)
